Longboarding into a Cactus....ouch!

We have had an interesting week at our house....more posts to follow. I'm trying to post them in order... so here goes.

The twins went long boarding on their last night before packing up and leaving for college. A bunch of friends went up to Las Sendes where the roads are long and steep apparently good for long boarding.
Well, Andrew had a near miss with a car, swerved to miss it and jumped into the median. It was dark and what he thought was a bush was really a Cholla Cactus. His friends brought him home and when Randy and I saw him we knew he had to go to the emergency room.
He's fine now but is bruised and has hundreds of puncture wounds all over him. They had to put him under because there was too many of them and it was painful to pull them out. He said he woke up about 4 times while they were working on him. It took 6-8 people about an hour to finish.

In his friends truck. You can't see them all in this picture. If you look closely you can see a bunch sticking out of each hand.

His friends driving him to the hospital. They tried to pull some needles out for him too. The next day they brought him a small potted cactus to take to college with him along with a few other things and a note. They called it his trophy! He loved it. So good to have great friends.

This was in his hospital room. By the time I got into his room (I was handling the admitting stuff) there was 8 people working on him simultaneously. They were pulling needles out in different spots at the same time. No meds then and really painful.

They had to cut off his pants to get to the needles. Yeah, one of his favorite ones.

Most tools they used were tweezers or small scissors but someone used this pipe wrench. Ouch!

Bless his heart! And as the Mom, you told him no more longboarding in the dark, right?!
Glad he's okay!

Oh my word. When I saw the picture I thought it was a joke at first.
All I can say is "OUCH" - it makes me hurt just looking at it.
