Weight Loss Quest

My daughter and I detoxed this week.  I hadn't planned on it but my girl wanted to.  I'm so proud of her.   She stuck to the program and ate her vegetables which she doesn't like.  She's a boss!  She'll weigh herself tomorrow.  I weighed today and lost 5 lbs.

Weight Loss Quest

If you've been following my blog you know that we went on a vacation to Florida which included a cruise.  Do you want to know how much I gained for that week.  1/2 a pound.  Seriously, I only gained 1/2 a pound.  Shocking!  I ate but I didn't overeat.  I still had bread with dinner and a dessert every night.  I did do alot of walking.  I still don't really understand why I didn't gain the 10 pounds on the cruise that I thought I would.  But I'm happy!

This week (after the cruise) I lost 5 pounds at my weigh in.  Sweet!  I'm still trying to get into a polka dot dress that's hanging in my closet.  Maybe soon.

Weight Loss Quest

I lost 0.4 pounds this week.  Not too happy.  My counselor says that I am working out too much and my body is holding onto the weight.  Whatever that means.  The magic number is suppose to be 45 minutes of exercise.  I've been doing a least 1 hour, 5 days a week.  I'm gonna try to stop after 45 minutes and see if it makes a difference.  There's nothing worse than giving it your all and coming up empty.

Weight Loss Quest

I lost 7 lbs. at today's weigh in.  Feeling happy and grateful.  Grateful that I finally found something that will work for me.  Exercising in the morning is working for me.  I actually like it which is seriously shocking!

I'm laughing because it's true!!!This is so me!

Weight Loss Quest

I lost 9 lbs. at this weeks weigh in.  That's for 2 weeks.  I've been trying to be as perfect as I can with my eating and exercising.  I'm doing a group boot camp 3 mornings a week at 5:30am (it's not as hot then being that it's outside but lately is been muggy, yuck)  and power walking the other days. I wish I could run.  Darn bad knees!
I really want to get to my goal weight and not give up until I'm there.  It's hard because I'm getting more comfortable with my body and it would be easy to just stop and maintain.  But more importantly to me I want to FINISH what I started.  Over the years I've gained and lost so much weight, never getting to goal.  Usually I got pregnant again.  A pretty good reason I think!

I ask myself this everyday

Weight Loss Quest

I'm trying to find healthy dinner recipes.  I realize that weight loss is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise.  It's been fun searching for good tasting healthy recipes.  If any of you have found some send them my way.

Weight Loss Quest

We had some car trouble today and I couldn't go to my weigh in.  It was actually my husbands car battery.  When it gets really hot sometimes the battery just wears out quicker.  He needed to use mine for work.  Next week!  Tonight we are going to the Diamond Backs/Dodger game for Family Night.  Look for us on TV.  Just kidding, our seats aren't that good.

Weight Loss Quest

I lost 4 lbs. this week and this is my 3rd week off Diet Coke.  It's been something that I've wanted to be off of for a long time.   Instead of my soda fix, I've been drinking tons and tons of water.  I also started my first exercise boot camp this morning at 5:30am.  I was able to keep up pretty well for the first 40 minutes then a ran out of steam and started to get a little light-headed.  I took some breaks and felt better.  I'll be doing it 3 days a week all month long!

Weight Loss Quest

I lost 8 lbs. at my weigh in today.  That's for 2 weeks.  It feels good to be losing and focused.  It was a rough start of the summer with all the kids needs front and center.  I found myself on the back burner again.  For me, life is a great balancing act.  I will always put my children first, always,  but now I don't forget about me either.  I've learned that if I don't care for myself  I will not able to do my best for them.  And they (my children) deserve my best!

Weight Loss Quest

I saw this in a magazine and could totally relate.
"When I was overweight it was like I just blended into the background, but then I started getting thin and all of a sudden people were noticing me."

Now I realize that could be a good thing.  Instead my feelings were  (1) "Where were you before?" "All of a sudden you like me now"  (2) all the new attention is difficult to handle.  Now I realize my ISSUES are in my head and I basically had to get over myself.  Change is hard, even good change.

One of the best things about losing the weight (there are many) is feeling normal.  That's a good feeling.  I'm not the fattest person in the room.  And yes, I used to always notice that.

Weight Loss Quest

I lost 2 lbs. at today's weigh in!  To me this is a great victory.  We had lots of family over and we had lots of food.  yummy food!  I tried to make mostly good choices though I did have a few bites of goodies.  The days prior to the party I ate perfectly.  That probably helped.  This eating stuff is all about balance! Maybe I'm starting to figure it out.  I hope I keep learning how to balance because I'd hate to have to give up goodies forever.

I made these brownies which were a HUGE hit.  They are delicious!  I've made them 5 or 6 times now and each time every one loves them.  The recipe is from the Six Sister's cookbook.  You'll thank me later.

Better-Than-Anything Brownies

1 (15.25 oz.) pkg. German chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup butter, melted
1 (5 3/4 oz. ) can evaporated milk, divided
1 (14 oz.) bag caramels
1 (8 oz.) bag Heath toffee bits, divided
1 (12 oz.) bag milk chocolate chips, divided

Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  In a large bowl, mix together cake mix, melted butter, and 1/3 cup evaporated milk.  Press half of this mixture into prepared pan.  Bake 6 minutes.
Meanwhile, melt together caramels and remaining evaporated milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring often.  Remove brownies from oven after 6 minutes and sprinkle on half the bag of Heath toffee bits.  Pour melted caramel over toffee bits.  Sprinkle on half the bag of chocolate chips.  Spread the remaining batter on top (this is easiest if you take pieces of the batter, flatten each individual piece in your hands and place on top).  Sprinkle remaining toffee bits and chocolate chips on top.  Bake 20 minutes.  Cool on a wire rack and then refrigerate for 3 hours before serving.

The Movie, "Lying to be Perfect"
Loved this movie.  Has anyone seen it?

It's about a girl who is overweight but lies to get ahead at work.  She pretends to be someone else who is thinner and confident while changing herself in the process.  All because of a Cinderella pact she makes with her girlfriends.
Here it is if you want to see the whole movie.

I gained 3 lbs. this week.  If I have ANY carbs it goes right to my stomach and refuses to leave.  Oh carbs you nasty goodness!  Eating properly is a daily struggle.  Mother's Day was lovely.  I love being a mom.  We are having a family shindig this weekend at our house.  I'll be seeing  4 family members that haven't seen me in years.  They are flying in from Texas and California.   I don't even think they know I've been losing weight.  Fun times!

Weight Loss Quest

Did not have a weigh in today.   Why you ask?  Cinco de Mayo dinner party at our house.  Have I mentioned that I love Mexican food and that I haven't had taco's and enchiladas in a LONG time.  Well, I can't say that anymore......Today I'm feeling fat, and bloated, have heart burn and stomach achy.  My plan is to jump right back on the wagon and try for a loss next week.
Speaking of jumping.  I did the fit test for the Insanity workout. It went okay.  Then on to Day 1 of the program.  Well, it's all jumping moves,  like all.  I've always had bad knees and still do even after losing a bunch of weight.  I just couldn't do it.  Hubby the physical therapist said I had to stop or do big time damage. So instead of Insanity I whipped out some old exercise DVDs and Videos and did those instead.  Hubby still did Insanity.  I'm upstairs in the loft and he's downstairs in the family room.  Yea, that's how we roll.

And you know what?  Even though I'm not yet where I want to be... I'm happy.  I've come a long way and the journey has been awesome.  It's still awesome.  I'm learning so much about myself,  how I deal with stress and how I can better deal with stress. How strong I am and what I still need to work on.  Life is Good!

This is my new year's resolution.

Weight Loss Quest

I lost a big fat 0 at my weigh in.  Ugg, so frustrating.  I'm gonna try to kick it up by doing an exercise program.  Has anyone tried the Insanity workout?  I don't know if I can physically do it but I'm gonna give it a try.  This could be bad.....like painful, very painful but it could be good.  Let's see what this 'ol girl can do!

Hahahaha the insanity workout!

I don't have to do it.....I want to!  Never thought I'd ever say anything like that.

Weight Loss Quest

I lost 1 lb. at this weeks weigh in.  I was hoping for more since I was perfect with my eating I thought!  My counselor said that I should weigh my food ( protein and vegetables)  because I may not be having enough.  After checking how much I'm suppose to have.  She's right.  My proteins should be 7 oz. cooked and my veggies (non starchy) at least 1 cup.   To me that's alot of food at one sitting.  I'll have to break it up and have it for two meals.  She said if I don't have all that I'm suppose to have then my body goes into starvation mode and won't release the fat.  I also need to have enough water because that flushes out the toxins.

So this week I'll be eating more and hopefully losing weight too. I'm counting on this being true!

Wish I could have more of these.  I grew up on crumb buns living next to a Polish bakery. These were my favorite.  So good!  Maybe some day I'll be able to have them again when I figure out how to have just one.  Working toward balance and control.

Weight Loss Quest

I'm doing better! I've been doing alot of soul searching. Why am I not happy with myself?  I realize that I should be jumping for joy all the time.  I lost 100 lbs!  If anyone else did that I would be thrilled for them.  I think I feel so bad that I HAD to lose 100 lbs.  It's hurts that I let myself get so out of control. Other people have disappointed me in the past and I disappointed myself by not being strong enough to deal with life.  Well, that was my reality.   I can't change the way I dealt with issues in the past, self medicating with food, but I can change my future.  This quote hit me.  I love it.

I'm gonna JUST MOVE ON.  When you know better, you do better!  If you're reading this and you think it's time to make some changes in your life COME JOIN ME. Helping someone else achieve their goals by learning from my struggles and triumphs would be awesome.  We all deserve to be happy! Happy with ourselves and with the knowledge that we deserve it.  That felt good to write.  Another weigh in on Monday.  Come on, let's do it together!

Weight Loss Quest

So most of you know already that I lost big on detox.  22 lbs.  My stomach has surely shrunk and it's easier for me to eat smaller meals without getting hungry!

I did discover something else about myself this past week.  I'm a self sabotager.  That's right.  When I get close to my goals I get scared and back track (gain weight).  Now this is going to get personal but I've heard its good to get it out.....
I'm not used to attention.  Meaning, people looking at me.  It's still uncomfortable.  I like wearing new clothes that "fit" better but hear in my mind other peoples comments about me.  The biggest one, "Yeah, you lost some weight now but just wait you'll gain it all back"  Now in all honesty NO ONE has said anything like that to me except for one person.  ME.  Meaning, I'm assuming that's what everybody is thinking because that's what I think.
Maybe I'm feeling judged.  Kinda like "Who does she think she is now"  In all honesty I have lost a few friendships.  In my heart I know that if you don't hang with me anymore because I've changed myself and become healthier it's your loss and I'm better off without you.  It still stings.
I knew the head games side of losing weight was coming.  For me the food side has been fairly easy it's the mind (emotional side) that I need to work on.  I'm so close to my goal weight.  I need to know that I deserve it. It's okay to look good and feel good about yourself.  (My weight loss counselor told me that and I started to cry)   See I told you, I'm not as strong as you think I am.  It's hard trying to overcome years and years of being overweight and all the feelings that come with that.  It's painful.  Usually when I'm emotionally in pain I eat.  Today I just cry at the computer and tell myself  "Lisa, you're a good person who can do hard things.  You have overcome so much, you can do this too."

Weight Loss Quest

I lost BIG on detox!  HUGE!  Are you ready for this......and I'm serious no April Fools joking.  I lost 22 lbs. doing 9 days of detox.  Holy Moly!!!!!!   I feel great.  I feel healthy and in control.  I think the hardest thing about me and food is feeling in control around it.  This past week I killed it.  Now to maintain this control.  I love food.  I love recipes.  I love eating.   I have to figure out how to love me more than food.  STILL a work in progress!

 1. Where do you hide things from your kids at?
my bedroom or garage.  But if I really don't want it to be found, at my sister's house.

2. What is your favorite rainy day activity for bored toddlers?
building forts, Disney movies, making up fun centers

3. Are you a punctual person or are you always running a few minutes (or more!) late??
always a few minutes late.  I wish this wasn't the truth but sadly it is.

4. When eating out, do you prefer off the beaten path "Mom and Pop" cafes or tried and true national food chains?
Both, it just depends on what we're hungry for and what places have healthy menus, which really most places do. You just have to tweak the food when you order.

5. Does your significant other snore? Do YOU snore?
Hubby only snores when he's sick.  I've been told that I used to snore when I was heavier.  I still doubt it though.  Hehe
